Silver Beaver Award Updated on July 10th, 2010
Congratulations to Diane Buri of Chanonee District for receiving the Silver Beaver Award.  This is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a volunteer by the Council.  It is not something that is sought, but it is voted on by the Council volunteers to recognize service 'above and beyond' to both the youth of our Council and the Council itself.  Diane has served in numerous positions at the District and Council level both in the areas of Council Camping and the Order of the Arrow.  Please congratulate Diane the next time you see her.

Youth Protection Training Updated on July 10th, 2010
Effective immediately, any adult leader having direct contact with the Scouts MUST complete Youth Protection training.  If the adult leader has not received Youth Protection training within the last two years, they will not be allowed to continue serving as a leader and will not be re-registered.  Further, depending on which leaders have not taken the training, the unit may not be rechartered.  After January 1, 2011, all adults coming into contract with the Scouts will have to have completed Youth Protection training.  This training is available on-line at www.myscouting.org. If you are not a member, you must register.  There is no cost to do so.  Additional information is available on the Council website www.threefirescouncil.org. Units can still have one of the District trainers do the training should you want to have your entire committee complete the training at the same time. Should you have any questions, or wish to set up a unit training session, please contact the District Training Chair for additional information.

District Commitee Meetings Updated on September 9th, 2009
Did you know that your unit's Chartering Organization Representative is a member of the District Committee and should attend each meeting? Would you like to get a better idea of what's going on at the District level? Do you have a question you would like to get answered by the people making the decisions? Do you have an issue that needs to be addressed? Do you want to be one of the people in the know? Then plan to attend the District Committee Meetings.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend, and visitors are always welcome. In fact, your attendance, and participation, is encouraged. Meetings are always held on the first Thursday of the month (except July or when it falls on a holiday) at Hope Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, and start promptly at 7:30 PM. They are always over by 9 PM. We look forward to having you attend.

Questions concerning the agenda for an upcoming meeting, or suggestions for agenda items you would like to see addressed, should be directed to the District Chairman.

District Committee Needs Your Help Updated on September 9th, 2009

Dear Scouters and other interested adults:

Would you consider giving some of your valuable time to the Chanonee District Committee?  We have a great core group of dedicated volunteers who work hard to bring the benefits of Scouting to your Cub Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews.  Still, we need more help to deliver the full Scouting program to the District.  We know you are busy; truth is, if you weren’t busy, we wouldn’t be asking you.  But maybe you can squeeze a little more into your week to handle one of the following positions:

  • Family Friends of Scouting Chair – distributes FOS packets to Unit FOS chairs, coordinates Unit FOS presentations, tallies and forwards collected pledges [We need to fill this position by Ocotber16]

  • FOS Appreciation Event Committee – plans and executes our annual FOS donor appreciation event

  • Membership Chair- develops and implements strategies to recruit new Scouts and build new Units

  • Camping Chair-organizes and coordinates District camping opportunities, including Camporee,  Cub Scout Day Camp, and the 2010 Camporall

  • Webelos to Boy Scouts Transition Chair- focuses on attracting first and second year Webelos  to join Boy Scout troops and continue their progress in Scouting

In addition, we need four volunteers just to work with the Council 2010 Scout-O-Rama committee in putting on the biggest and best event ever, in celebration of the 100th birthday of Scouting.

The Committee meets on the first Thursday evening of each month, August through June.  We have fun.  Please contact your District Chair, Pat Kronenwetter; your District Commissioner, Mike Koehne; or your District Executive, Tom Heneghan, to discuss how you can join the party.  You can do this!

Thanks, in advance.

Your District Committee
